Future pastoral leaders with a love for the musical arts can combine their interests with the SEU Carolina School of Worship. The worship experience is significant in many ways, particularly in regard to its power to enhance community, inspire people in their devotion to God and provide an avenue for entry into the Christian faith. The SEU Carolina School of Worship prepares pastors to engage the creative arts and incorporate music in a quality manner in the worship experience. In contrast to traditional church music majors, which focuses primarily on the arts component, degrees offered through the SEU Carolina School of Worship includes core studies not only in audio and production, directing and songwriting but also in theology, Bible, ethics and practical theology. The School of Worship provides practical, hands-on experience in a ministry setting, and further equips students with a solid foundation in aural, music theory, and music administration. Worship ministries majors graduate ready to make a positive impact in a church or alternate ministry setting as well as to pursue advanced graduate study in theology or another discipline. Graduates are also eligible to become an ordained minister within in the Assemblies of God.

Sample Courses

  • Worship Leading I (MUSC 2021) — This course is an introduction to the study of worship leading in a small-group setting. Emphasis will be placed on the development of the spiritual life of the worship leader as well as the musical and leadership skills necessary to lead a small group during corporate worship.

  • Church Production Technology (PMIN 3173) — A study of the production of music, audio, and multimedia content using computer technologies. Emphasis will be on the practical application of these technologies in a church setting. Basic areas covered include visual (still, video, streaming) and audio editing and production, related software applications, related web-based resources, and basic recording technology.

  • Songwriting for the Church (PMIN 3193) — This course is an introduction to songwriting for the Church. Emphasis will be on the building blocks of worship music, lyrical and theological content, making memorable melodies, and co-writing songs. Special attention will be given to the development of contemporary worship songs that come from a local church context.

The staff responsible for the design, development, and implementation of the SEU Carolina School of Worship consists of talented and educated personnel with many years of experience in the performing arts. Not only are our educators highly proficient in their field, but each of our team members are dedicated to providing a safe, exciting, and educational experience for each student.

scholarships available

Students who are admitted into the SEU Carolina School of Worship are eligible to receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,650 an academic year. This scholarship covers the cost of the hands-on learning experience that you gain while participating in practicum. That’s a value of 3 credit hours per semester that counts toward your general electives and a savings of $6,600 over a four year period.


musical abilities

All students will be required to demonstrate their proficiency in their chosen instrument or in vocal performance. This demonstration will take place in the form of an audition during the admission process. Also, after acceptance, ongoing evaluations will occur to determine which music classes the student will be required to complete prior to graduation.
