As an education major at Southeastern, you won’t have to wait until you graduate and land a job to understand what it takes to be a teacher. Teaching is a hands-on ministry, and Southeastern believes that allowing you to practice your craft in real classrooms through ongoing field studies and student teaching is the best way to prepare you to manage, teach and assess learners of different ages and learning styles. In addition to your real-life training, you will gain a strong foundation of historical perspectives, theory and teaching methods from professors with decades of experience in the classroom. Our faculty is committed not only to equipping you with best practices and the tricks of the teaching trade but also to helping you navigate today’s schools as a Christian professional.

Sample Core Courses

• Introduction to Education (EDUC 2133) — This course is a study of the nature and character of American education and how it has been influenced by our social structure, social values, and history. Contemporary issues in education are explored to help provide the student with an understanding of the social foundations of education. The course also includes an orientation to teacher and educational clinical programs, introduction to subject area competencies, professional skills and competencies, benchmarks for the pre-professional level of accomplished practices for teachers, and the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

• Educational Psychology (EDUC 2233) — This course is a study of student diversity, the principles and philosophy of human growth and development, motivation and learning theory, and how these are applied to teaching. Included are introductions to intelligence theories, cultural issues, instructional approaches, learning taxonomies, motivation, and different assessment tools.

• Children’s Literature & Development (MISS 2633) — This course investigates children’s literature emphasizing developmentally appropriate instructional practices. Attention is placed on understanding psychological, social, emotional, and cognitive development as they correlate to motivating students to interact with literature.

The SEU Carolina School of Education is located on campus at cfa church, a vibrant growing church with one of the top academy’s in the region. This K-12 academy gives our college students the opportunity to practice the things they are learning in a real world environment. This also allows our students to build their resume while working toward their degree.

2 & 4 Year

Currently, there is a high demand for teachers who are graduating with a Christ-centered background in the education degree field. To help you pursue your call and respond to this need within the industry, we are currently offering a two year program that will get you in the classroom as soon as possible. 4 year programs are coming Fall 2020.
