Experiential Education

At SEU Carolina, one of the defining features of our academic experience is that students don’t have to wait until graduation to gain meaningful experience in their field. Throughout their college journey, students have the opportunity to participate in practicum—a 3-credit course designed to provide hands-on learning both in the classroom and beyond. Whether in ministry, education, business, or another field, practicum allows students to apply what they’re learning in real-world settings, develop practical skills, and build a strong résumé.

About Experiential Education

Experiential education at SEU Carolina happens in two environments—one part in the classroom, and the other part outside the four walls of the classroom in the vocation of your choice.

• While in the classroom, students will be informed, challenged, and adequately prepared for what God is calling you to do after graduation.

  • Classroom experience varies weekly based on your degree program.

  • For example: Ministry, Missions, Worship students have 3 hours of classroom time weekly for sessions on sermon writing and pastoral development

• Outside the classroom, students will be able to take what they are learning and practically apply the lessons, principles, and teachings in real world scenarios through a hands-on internship.

  • Part Time students complete 8 hours a week

  • Full Time students complete 12 hours a week

• Students receive 3 credit hours a semester for their experiential education

• Students receive a scholarship to cover the cost for their experiential education

• Students get to create their own experience they’ve always wanted by having the option to decide where they want their internship to be

• Students who participate in our program build their resume throughout their college career, making them more marketable in the job market after graduation

• Students who participate in our practicum program are exposed to a network of experts in their field that helps with job placement after graduation

Students get to choose what their experiential education experience looks like. This varies per student and is driven by what the student wants to do when they graduate.

SEU Carolina also has a vast partnership with many churches in the region, which are accessible to our students for practical, hands-on learning experiences. Students are currently completing internships in 15 different churches across the region.

Off Campus Opportunities

While 60% of our student body are pursuing some sort of degree program in church ministry, there is an additional 40% of students that are pursuing studies in other fields.

Students outside of church ministry have access to many off-campus experiences through the network that SEU Carolina has established. These internships include schools, businesses, and non-profits where our students can gain access to internships that match their interests and field of study.
