Christian Educator Intensive

In 2023, SEU Carolina partnered with Concord Academy for a three day intensive for educators in Concord, North Carolina. We are excited that the Christian Educator Intensive will return in the 2024-25 academic year to provide teachers with in-person training and instruction. The intensive will be held on campus at SEU Carolina March 14-16 from 9am to 3pm. Three courses will be offered at a discounted rate and will collectively meet the 9 credit hour requirement that teachers need to maintain their certification with the ACTS Conference. Teachers can also receive 12 ceu’s for the course on biblical integragtion. For more information, explore below.

Three Courses, Three Days, all at one incredible price!

 

 
  • Convenient - Courses are traditionally offered in a 16 week format. For your convenience, three courses will be taught in one weekend.

  • Relevant - Courses covered at the intensive will cover relevant subject matter that teachers are facing in the classroom today.

  • Affordable - Each course will be offered at a discounted rate of $315 per course. Courses are traditionally offered at rate of $1,017. This is a savings of over $2,000.

  • Accredited - Each of the courses provided at the teaching conference meet the requirements to maintain your accreditation within the ACTs Conference

  • Lunch - Concord Academy has a commercial kitchen on site that will be preparing gourmet lunches on site for attendees.

  • Collegiate - Each of the courses offered at the intensive are worth 3 credit hours. This gives teachers an opportunity to earn 9 credit hours in one weekend at the collegiate level.

Courses being Offered

  • EDUC 2123 Content and Instructional Design (Friday March 14) - This course focuses on the principles of effective instructional design and delivery in the K-12 setting. The course will cover models of effective teaching, North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards, disciplines of writing lesson and unit plans, and state-adopted content standards. Assessment and differentiated instruction will be covered.

  • EDUC 3133 Assessment of Learners (Saturday March 15)- This course focuses on the educational levels and needs of all students, including exceptional, culturally and/or linguistically diverse, and at-risk students.  Use of assessments in program planning is emphasized.

  • EDUC 3713 Integration of Faith and Education (Sunday March 16) - This course is designed to assist educators in effectively and legally integrating their Christian faith into school and classroom settings. This workshop session/course will cover the aim of education, common worldviews and their problems, and distinctives of Christian school education. Educators will discuss biblical worldviews and the importance of being ready with an answer! We will practice incorporating a biblical worldview into lesson plans.

 

About Your Instructor

Dr. Sarah Yates is a professor at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. Dr. Yates has a Masters in Elementary Education and a Doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction. Dr. Yates has taught a variety of undergraduate courses including Applied Linguistics, Teaching Language Arts, Methods of Teaching Mathematics, Methods of Teaching Science, and Social Studies. She is the chair of the master’s and doctoral programs in the College of Education and teaches doctoral courses including Learning and Cognition, Foundations of Research, and Curriculum Theory, Concepts, and Design. Passionate about creativity in the classroom and incorporating the arts across the curriculum, Dr. Yates stresses the importance of establishing an engaging classroom and believes in modeling research-based teaching strategies. Sarah and her husband have four adult children and live in central Florida.
